PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 14 pts.
SWANSEA UPLANDS 49
For the second week running, the Quins suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a Swansea based side, the only difference being that the damage was done in the second half and not the first half, as was the case the previous week.
It was the Quins who were first on the scoresheet with a converted try after just five minutes when a strong and determined run by centre Lewis Davies caused panic in the visitors' ranks before a fine offload to number eight Barry Parsons saw him power his way to the line from 20 yards out to score near the posts.
Outside-half Jonathan Rogers converted to give the Quins a 7-0 lead, but just five minutes later the hosts were caught offside and this time Tom Edmunds slotted the resultant penalty for Swansea to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Edmunds gave his opponents another warning shortly after when he struck an upright after the Quins were penalised for not binding, but on the quarter-hour mark he nailed his second penalty to drag the visitors to within one point of the Quins.
The Uplands at this stage were dominating proceedings, running ball at what seemed every opportunity and it was no surprise when number eight James Brannigan forced his way over the Quins line after a quick penalty.
Edmunds missed the conversion, but the Quins were now firmly on the back foot. They did, however, force a penalty 45 yards out, with Lewis Davies's kick just falling short.
Five minutes before the break, the Quins were really caught napping. With all the Uplands backs lining up on the left, they all suddenly flooded right, which ended in Edmunds scoring a try which seemed to come straight off the training pitch.
Once again the conversion was missed and from the restart the Quins hit back after a series of penalties, where they put together their best move of the half, ending with a penalty try after Davies was prevented from playing the ball when a score looked certain.
Rogers put over the conversion to end the scoring and send the visitors in 16-14 in front at the break.
As the second half started, many thought that if the Quins could put in the same second half performance as the previous week, they would be in with a shout, but sadly that was not to be as five minutes into the half, Uplands flanker Ben Davies powered over for a try converted by Edmunds.
The outside-half was soon at it again running in his second try which he converted himself to give the Uplands the bonus point they deserved.
Left wing Harry Lees soon added another after a Quins kick in midfield was charged down.
Edmunds again converted to add to his impressive points tally and to push the visitors in to what seemed an unassailable 37-14 lead.
The Quins, however, never gave in and were unlucky on a few occasions not to score themselves after forcing penalties close to the Uplands line, but the visitors held firm.
With the visitors now sensing a big win, further tries were soon added by centre James Edmunds and a third try for Tom Edmunds, who also converted his brother's try to end with a very impressive match haul of 29 points.
It seemed what ever the Quins tried to do, it never came off, when on another day it could well have happened for them.
With a fortnight off to lick their wounds, the Quins will have plenty of food for thought before the trip to local rivals St. Davids.
