Golf in the community has always been a priority for the team at Trefloyne and with several important programmes running continuously at Greenhill and Bush Schools, as well as 12 local primary schools, 2014 was no different.
This year however, director of golf, Oliver, and his team, decided to challenge themselves to introduce over 1,000 children to golf within the calendar year. Hampered by the early spring showers, the challenge got off to a slow start, but with the weather improving and, following a beautiful summer, we were able to hit our target and break the 1,000 barrier.
Oliver said: "It's a real privilege to be able to take the game I love and introduce it to children as young as four in a school environment. Many children only ever get to experience main stream sport, so it's a huge postitive to offer some diversity to their school sport experiences.
"The feedback we have had from pupils, teachers and parents has been very encouraging and I would like to personally thank Alan Jones, of Sport Pembrokeshire, all the schools that have been involved in the scheme, Stuart Finlay from the Golf Union of Wales and Trefloyne and their members for their continued support. I look forward to making 2015 even bigger!"
