The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot hosted the first round of Youth Speaks with the junior competition at the St. Bride's Hotel in Saundersfoot on Tuesday, November 6. This is a traditional public speaking event, where students from Netherwood School and Ysgol Greenhill School compete with one another.
The title of the winning team from Netherwood's talk was 'You can never have too much confidence', with William Evans as chairman, Daniel Jenkins as proposer and Joe Stratford as opposer. Daniel was also awarded best proposer for the evening.
Further awards were made to Lucy Liddell for best chair, Natasha Sutton-Williams for best opposer and to James Day for best speaker on the evening.
Some of the other subjects debated included: 'golf is a good walk ruined'; 'do the Welsh know their onions?'; 'underground, overground, wandering free, mythical creatures far fetched or believed?' and 'young people and the Internet are incompatible'.
It was an excellent evening, enjoyed by all who attended, and certainly provided some very stimulating ideas for discussion! Well done to all who took part!
