On the weekend of June 24/25, the final two events in the five series WYA club youth racing circuit programme of races was held at Neyland Yacht Club. The two races on Saturday morning favoured the lighter sailors who all completed a trapezoid course that was set out on the area of Pennar flats. After recharging their batteries following a BBQ served up by the faithful following of mums and willing volunteers, the sailors took to the water to complete a two further races in much stronger airs. The results for Saturday were as follows: Optimist Fleet: 1. Danielle Rowe (NYC); 2. Sara Doust (visiting helm from Cardiff Bay Yacht Club); 3. Harry Upton (Teifi). Optimist Training Fleet: 1. Adam Rowe (NYC); 2. Fraser James (NYC); 3. Alex Callan (NYC). Toppers: 1. Kristian Leary (NYC); 2. Jonathon Morris (TSC); 3. Conor Keohane (TSC). General Handicap Fleet: 1. Alex and Joel Kirk (NYC); 2. Daniel Pearn (NYC); 3. Alex Sainter (NYC). On Sunday, the real stars of the day were the sailors of the Optimist Training Fleet, with many of these sailors taking part in a competitive race for the first time - some after having only four training lessons prior to the event. Sunday's racing was conducted on a similar course to that of Saturday, with two races before and after lunch. Sunday's results: were as follows: Optimist: 1. Danielle Rowe (NYC); 2. Sara Doust (CBYC); 3. William Thomas (Teifi). Optimist Training Fleet: 1. Fraser James (NYC); 2. Adam Rowe (NYC); 3. Joseph Reohorn (NYC); 4. Alex Callan (NYC). Toppers: 1. Connor Keohane (TSC); 2. Jonathon Morris (TSC); 3. Catrin Johns (NYC). General Handicap Fleet: 1. Alex and Joel Kirk (NYC); 2. Daniel Pearn (NYC); 3. Alex Sainter (NYC). Following the prize-giving for Sunday's races, the trophies for the overall series were presented to the winners by Paul Rowe (WYA West chairman) and Richard Twining (WYA West regional development officer).
