The Royal Air Force, in partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, hosted the third of its five RAF Rugby Festivals at Narberth RFC on Sunday. Over the weekend, more than 1,100 players from junior club teams representing the Blues, Scarlets and Dragons regions, descended on rugby pitches at Abercynon, Narberth and New Panteg. While celebrating the end of season, the players also showed off their skills to international players who attended the festivals, including Mark Jones, Robin Snowden-Taylor and Kevin Morgan. Aled Smith, 14, from Kilgetty was the lucky winner of the RAF's prize draw and won £200 worth of JJB Sports vouchers. He said: "I've really enjoyed meeting the other local teams here today at the festival. Having Mark Jones here and winning the competition was fantastic too!" International player Mark Jones, who attended the day, said: "I think it's great the RAF sponsors grassroots rugby. These rugby festivals are very worthwhile competitions because they create fixtures that aren't usually played, making the players raise their game." The RAF is in its third year of a three-year sponsorship of Junior District and Junior Club Rugby in Wales which provides essential support for over 15,000 rugby players aged 12-16 years, who play in junior games each year. Squadron Leader Carrie Rossie, Area Commander for Armed Forces Career's Offices in South Wales, said: "The RAF places great importance on sport and encourages servicemen and women to reach their true potential. The drive, dedication and commitment that we've seen from players this weekend are exactly the attributes that the RAF looks for in potential recruits."
