Swim Narberth, has proudly enjoyed success at the annual ‘Swim Wales’ awards, recognising the team’s dedication to the community.
The awards recognise the Welsh aquatics community, with the ceremony taking place at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.
Swim Narberth - a Registered Charity, providing Narberth and its surrounding areas with a swimming pool and facilities, that is managed by a team of experienced and passionate locals won in the ‘Swim School Award’ category; while instructors Alice Brumby-Jones and Lucy Christopher-Barnes were recognised in the ‘Aquatic Teacher Award’ category.
Chris Walters of Chairman of Swim Narberth CIO shared: “This is not just a win for our pool — it’s a win for the whole of Narberth.
“To see Swim Narberth recognised on a national stage, and to bring two Swim Wales Annual Awards home to Pembrokeshire, is something I am incredibly proud of, not just as Chairman, but as someone who has been part of this journey during some of the most challenging years the pool has ever faced.
“A huge and heartfelt congratulations to Alice Brumby-Jones and Lucy Christopher-Barnes on their individual awards. Both are so richly deserved.
“Their passion, professionalism, and care shine through in every lesson they deliver. They don’t just teach swimming — they build confidence, life skills, and a lifelong love of the water.”
Eleven years ago, Narberth’s swimming pool faced the very real threat of closure; but thanks to the unwavering support of the community, pool users, and everyone who believed in what the facility meant to the town, Swim Narberth is now thriving.
“This award is dedicated to Sue Rees, who was the driving force behind saving our pool in the first place,” continued Chris.
“Without Sue’s passion, determination and tireless efforts all those years ago, this journey simply would not have been possible.
“Sue fought many battles with Pembrokeshire County Council — and to her credit, she won every single one!

“Alongside her were an incredible group of volunteers and fundraisers who worked tirelessly to hit funding targets and secure the future of the pool. None of this would exist without their determination and belief.
“I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to all our supporters, past and present, who have stood by the pool throughout this journey. Your belief and encouragement have meant everything.
“I am also incredibly grateful to my fellow trustees. Your commitment, time and hard work — often behind the scenes — keep this charity moving forward, and I’m proud to serve alongside each and every one of you.
“Finally, thank you to our amazing staff team who deliver such an outstanding swim school every single day. This recognition truly belongs to you all,” added Chris.
While the Friends of Narberth Pool sadly no longer exists, looking ahead, Chris says the Swim Narberth charity very much hopes to relaunch a Friends group in 2026.
He also has high hopes that a grant application recently submitted will be successful, allowing the team to refurbish key areas of the pool and continue improving the facility for everyone who uses it.
