The amazing fundraising efforts of a six-year-old girl have been recognised by Pembrokeshire County Council.
With the help of her family, Elly Neville from Pembroke has raised £56,000 to date for the refurbishment and upgrade of Ward 10 - the dedicated cancer ward at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.
Accompanied by her parents, Elly was guest of honour at a reception in County Hall recently hosted by council chairman, Tony Brinsden.
The fundraising began when Elly made a collage of the Pembrokeshire flag for a school competition.
She then decided to raffle it, with the funds going towards the upgrade of cancer services at Withybush, and has never looked back,
Now Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal has been made official and all donations raised are ring-fenced for the specific purpose to benefit patients of the cancer ward.
Earlier this year, Elly’s work was recognised with the presentation at the House of Lords of a British Citizens Youth Award.
Clr. Brinsden said: “Elly’s achievements are remarkable for one so young and she is an example to us all.”
Elly’s dad, Lyn, said he was grateful for the support offered by the county council.
