Llangennech 40 pts. Narberth Athletic 21

Narberth Athletic travelled to play top-of-the-table Llangennech with a side missing several regular players through injury and illness.

Their absence gave other members of the squad plus some of the youth squad the chance to enjoy the experience of playing competitive rugby at this level.

Llangennech started at a fast aggressive pace and produced a try by Dale Watts within the first 10 minutes. Narberth Athletic were finding it hard to settle and Llangennech gave them little time producing another try by outside-half Mathew Lewis.

The Athletic then started to get their game together and produced some hard fought rugby, ending in their first try scored by Aron Keane, a very active scrum-half from the youth team.

At half-time Llangennech led 15-7 and caught the Narberth team napping at the start of the second half, allowing Llangennech to score a try by Rhys Williams.

Narberth Athletic were under the cosh, but came back with some positive going forward rugby which resulted in a well-worked try under the posts by Thabani Sangwani. Llangennech hit back almost at once with a try by Stephen Howells.

The visitors kept working away with some more good work by the pack of youngsters. They were rewarded with a well-judged try by the team captain, Aled Harries.

Unfortunately this was not enough as Llangennech scored again through Mathew Lemon.

Speaking after the match, team manager John Hodgeon said: "This was a good game to watch. Both sides played good open rugby. The Narberth team are producing a flowing style, but need to be more positive and step up their game at away matches. Nevertheless, they are a very young side with a lot of potential.

"Everyone played well, with good individual performances by Simon Griffiths and Paul Brown, both playing out of position in the second row, Gareth Jones, Aled Harries and Gareth Flynn a hooker turned centre.

"Our tries were converted by Tom Richards, up from the youth team, as were Paul Done, Aron Keane and Rhydian Williams. Each of the youngsters produced the goods, which shows promise for the future of the Athletic team.

"The final scoreline of 40-21 to Llangennech reflects their position at the top of the league."

The Narberth man-of-the-match was back row forward Thabani Sangwani.
