Whitland travelled to Brynmawr last Saturday and came away empty handed, after going down by 18 points to 13.
In a match dominated by the referee's whistle, Brynmawr's outside-half Jason Williams failed with two early penalty kicks in the second and third minute, with Whitland's number 10, Scott Penny giving the visitors an early lead with a penalty in the seventh minute.
The 17th minute, Brynmawr were awarded another penalty, and they decided to kick for the corner, which saw them take a good line-out ball, by second row Damien Hudd, enabling the forwards to drive for the line. But, Whitland's defence held strong with Brymawr's attack being held up on the line.
Williams was successful in the 20th minute with a 30 yard penalty to bring the scores level. Two minutes later he again extended their lead, but after failing with a penalty in the 26th minute, he added another right on the stroke of half-time, to leave the score 9-3 to Brynmawr.
Whitland's travelling supporters felt that turning around and with the wind at their backs, the team had every chance of an away victory.
Four minutes into the second half, Brynmawr conceded a penalty just inside their half, which young wing Lee Glanville took quickly, breaking through the first line of defence. With centre Mike Buckingham in support, Glanville raced down the touch-line, fending off two tackles, before cutting back inside the full-back Chris Arnold, to send fellow centre Dominic Setaro over under the posts for a well worked try.
Scott Penny successfully added the conversion points to give Whitland a 10-9 lead.
But, it was short lived, as Whitland conceded another penalty three minutes later, which saw Williams kick Brynmawr back into the lead, 12-10.
After some good driving work by the Whitland forwards, they set up a drop goal chance for Scott Penny, but unfortunately the strong wind took it to the side of the post.
After 17 minutes, Williams kicked another penalty for Brynmawr, only for Penny to add one for Whitland three minutes later, bringing the score back 15-13 to Brynmawr. Penny was again unlucky in the 25th minute with a penalty chance, and in the 27th minute a drop goal attempt which fell under the bar.
With only some five minutes left, Brynmawr extended their lead with another penalty from Williams.
It was to left to Whitland to dominate for the last few minutes, but they failed to cross the line when some basic handling errors let them down, and the chance to draw the match went begging.
