Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told her colleagues at a meeting of Tenby Town Council on Tuesday night that she had been approached by a number of locals concerned about the condition of the Royal Lion Hotel.
"I was pleased to read in the local press that notice had finally been served by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority on the owner to clear the former Gatehouse site of its rubble, but it has raised the question amongst locals over how long the Royal Lion Hotel will be allowed to remain in its current state," she commented.
"Many people who walk out of the De Valence building often look up at the hotel and refer to its state as shocking. If this was someone's house or home we were talking about, it would be asked to be put into repair.
"A lot of town's people have also asked why the Delphi development plans have come into play before the Gatehouse and Lion. I intend to ask National Park officers these questions when I speak with them tomorrow," she added.
Meanwhile, following a decision by the town council to place a book in their offices open to the public to suggest what they wish to see put in place at the site of the former Gatehouse, a number of ideas have been put forward.
One idea included a mini version of the Botanical Gardens with a car park surrounding it, reported the town clerk to members, while the owners of Tenby's Silent World Aquarium had made a query regarding the site as they were looking to relocate as they were out growing their current site.
