Concerns have been expressed this week over the timescale of plans to upgrade Narberth's water treatment works.

"It is now apparent that Welsh Water still continue to be obstructive in giving clear indications when they intend to upgrade their treatment works," County Councillor Wynne Evans told the Observer. It was originally thought that this would happen in May 2009, but it now seems likely not to happen until 2010.

Clr. Evans continued: "I am in constant dialogue with Welsh Water and it is my intention to enter into further discussions to see if it is possible for them to start work in 2008.

"With major new developments coming to town, and as always, new plans being submitted for individual properties as well, huge pressure is being put on the existing facilities. I have fears that one day, there may be a serious breach of the current system. Surely, it is in everyone's best interests to do this work sooner rather than later."

Clr. Evans says he hopes that further informal discussions will continue into the spring. "With a site meeting possible again, I would like to hear from anyone who has encountered problems with sewage etc. in the Narberth area over the last few years to add more strength to my case," Clr. Evans added.
