A WELSH singer with connections to Narberth RFC has been selected to sing the national anthem before Wales' match against the All Blacks tomorrow (Saturday).

Thirty-nine-year-old Sharon Cotter, from Llanboidy, near Whitland, got the gig, normally reserved for top opera stars, after sending off a CD.

Sharon's mother Ivy and step-dad Dorian Phillips run DP Building Supplies in Llanboidy, while Dorian is a former chairman of Narberth Rugby Club and the current vice-chairman.

Sharon moved to New Zealand in 1995 after marrying Kiwi Jeremy Cotter, who coaches the Te Puke team.

Sharon will sing the Welsh anthem in Dunedin prior to the kick-off.

The game will be screened live on Sky at 8.30 am in this country.
