Sir,
In your August 14 edition, you reported a call-out of the inshore lifeboat to look for two people believed to be trapped near Monkstone. It proved to be a false alarm.
I was the member of the public who made the report and I feel that I must record my appreciation of the professionalism, courtesy and old-fashioned friendliness of the coastguard volunteers who came to my flat in The Strand.
They made it clear that they were happy to leave whatever they had planned for the evening to follow up what was obviously likely to be a false alarm, rather than run any risk of failing to respond to people in need of assistance.
We should all be proud of them.
Ken Newman,
Halesowen,
