With a brand new venue, an entry of 27 riders tackled 12 sections ridden over four laps. The course was laid out in a deep wooded valley, with a fast flowing stream running down the centre. Many of the sections were situated using the stream and steep banks in and out of the water, which took a lot of penalty marks off riders as they footed their way through the deep mud.
One exception to this was the superb ride by Wayne Jones, riding a 250 cc Spanish-built Gas-Gas, who only lost four marks for the entire day. A measure of what a good ride this was, is the fact that second placed local man and landowner, Rob Chell, lost 31 marks on his Bultaco 250cc, both riding on the hard route.
Other sections were plotted out on the steep bank of the wood and crossed a cambered bank with many exposed tree roots, which gradually became very slippery as the day wore on, and this took marks off most of the entry.
A mention must go to Mathew Bodfish, who was riding in his very first trial, on a borrowed machine. With only two hours riding practice the day before, he finished in second place in the schoolboy class with 108 marks lost on the easy route.
At the other end of the scale of marks lost on the easy route, Llanfallteg resident, Bill Myers, on his superb sounding four stroke BSA 350cc, lost a miserly 10 marks.
The machines were very varied, ranging from British BSA and Greeves, through Yamaha twin-shock machines of the 1970s and '80s, up to modern Spanish and Italian lightweight mono-shocks.
The club will be running its next event, which will be the first round of the Welsh National Classic Scrambles championship, on April 4, at a brand new track near Narberth. Classes will be run for pre-65s, twin-shocks, sidecars and modern quads.
Anyone interested in riding or marshalling or helping with club events will be most welcome. Contact Will Gibbon (01437) 741697 or Bryan Bodfish (01834) 860685. The club meets on the first Monday of each month, 8 pm at Narberth Rugby Club.
