The RNLI are well-known for saving lives at sea, but the focus isn’t always on human lives, as the rescue of a sheep from choppy waters proved in Tenby!
We’ve all heard stories about firefighters rescuing cats from trees, but last Friday morning (January 30), a sheep was saved from drowning by the seaside town’s inshore lifeboat crew, who raced to rescue the animal in rough seas, after it had been chased off the cliffs at Penally by a loose dog.
The RNLI crew have been praised for jumping into action to get to the ewe in time to save it from drowning, with local farmer Will Evans sharing his experience of the ordeal on Facebook, thanking the RNLI volunteers for their quick response, stating: “What an eventful morning - flat out lambing and get a call to say a dog has chased my sheep off the cliffs in Penally.
“Luckily the ewe that entered the water was recused before she drowned. Massive thank you to Tenby lifeboat crew and teams for coming to the rescue!”
However, the incident serves as a stark warning to walkers to keep their pets on leads on land around livestock, as seemingly the dog wasn’t as lucky as the sheep.
