Sir,
Upper Frog Street will not be quite the same without the Bali Hai which has been in the hands of the same family for, I think, over 50 years, as I remember enjoying coffee and cake there when down on holiday.
And it was before 1966 when we used to come on annual holiday from Birkenhead by train that we asked Elaine’s father if he could provide us with a picnic lunch for us to pick up the next day before boarding the train for the long journey through Mid Wales.
Another vivid memory is seeing a pram parked in the cafe when a new arrival made her presence known.
Eventually we moved to Tenby and continued to patronize the Bali Hai.
One of my most vivid memories is of sitting at the table facing onto the street and seeing all the well dressed guests making their way to the De Valence after seeing Princess Alexandra launch the new lifeboat.
Time moved on and when eventually living on my own, I found a warm welcome for myself and Daisy my little dog when we regularly had lunch at the Bali Hai.
Not being very mobile, I have not been in the Bali Hai recently, but I would like to thank Elaine for her never failing courtesy and friendly efficiency.
Barbara Stredder,
Marsh?Road,
Tenby.
