Fund-raising Cheque Presentations
After a year of fund-raising, Trefloyne were pleased to present a cheque for £2,523 to Withybush Ward 10. Seen here with the cheque are club captains, Dave McMann and Ann Dassen. The cheque has been sent to Ward 10 to be put to good use.
Secondly, Sarah Jordan from Tenovus travelled down from Cardiff to accept a cheque on their behalf for £1,217.41. Pictured presenting the cheque is Christine Lewis (lady vice-captain), Dave McMann (men's club captain), Oliver Duckett (club professional), Ann Dassen (lady captain), Sarah Jordan (Tenovus charity fund-raiser), Bethan Morris and Lydia Knight, members of Trefloyne Junior Section.
This is a good start towards Trefloyne's target of £2,000 for the Welsh cancer charity.
The next fund-raising event for Tenovus will be held on Saturday, October 10 - tee times are now available in the Pro Shop.
Ladies' section
August has been yet another very busy month, with ladies and girls at Trefloyne representing the club at a number of venues.
The most prestigious was Celtic Manor, where Bethan Morris represented us at the Junior Championships of Wales and came second with 34 points! An excellent achievement.
Our other junior star, Hari Truman, played the following day in the Derllys Court Junior Open and came first with an amazing 45 points. She was dropped to 27 handicap and then on Saturday dropped one more to 26 in our Club Championship first round (see report).
Congratulations to both of you.
Ann Dassen and Anne Morgan qualified for the Rhian Pearn Trophy, which was played in the rain at Neath last Tuesday. Ann D came second on countback, sharing the winning score of 74 with Neath's Helen Knight. She won a beautiful modern crystal bowl. Anita Davis, of Tenby, came third out of 62 players with 77.
Thirteen Trefloyne 'crinklies' (thank you Anne M) entered the Carms and Pembs LGA Seniors' Competition in Glyn Abbey last Thursday in pretty dire conditions. There were five different age categories and 'crinklette' Ann Dassen scored 31 points to win the youngest category. Lind Cowerd scored 32 points to win fourth overall, best score of the day and a £20 voucher. Well done to all of you for braving the rain, wind and mud!
Our league team won their last fixture at home to Cardigan 4 and 1, giving us a guaranteed fourth place out of 10, and possibly higher when the few remaining teams have finished playing.
After winning the league at our first attempt last year, we were expecting to be strongly challenged this year. However, we can hold our heads up high as we have finished higher than previous winners, Ashburnham, Carmarthen and Tenby, all of whom we had to play away this year.
Well done to all the ladies and girls and all who came to support us throughout the season and thank you to team captain Di Neale and vice-captain Chris Lewis for organising everything.
Back at Trefloyne, on Tuesday, August 18, the stableford competition was won by Rita Collins with 32 points, with Chris Collinson second on countback from Liz Crockford on 29. The bag draw was won by Dee Truman.
The bogey competition on Saturday, August 22, was won by Julie Jenkins with a +2, with Heather Thorne +1 and Bethan Morris -1. Linda Kromrei had a birdie 2.
On Tuesday, August 25, the stableford was won by Beth McMann with 31points, with Heather Thorne second on 29 and Anna Hubbard with 23.Beth also won the bag draw.
The diary has been so incredibly full that the Sunday Swingers has not been played. This should start back in earnest in September with a roll-up at 10 am.
A Note From
Your Pro
As reported elsewhere in this column, a busy bank holiday weekend saw over 60 entrants compete in the 2009 Club Championships which was eventually won by James Maxwell, with Michelle Richards taking the ladies' prize. Huge congratulations to them and everyone who played in some pretty terrible conditions.
Bank Holiday Monday saw the Beynons Texas Scramble taking place. We had a mix of junior, ladies and gents teams, with over 70 players taking to the course.
Winners on the day were Gareth and Sarah Knight, partnered by Matthew and Sophie Evans, with a fantastic score of nett 55.
