ANNUAL CLUB DINNER AND PRESENTATION
The new marquee at Trefloyne was the venue for this year's annual club dinner and presentation and despite the weather, spirits were high and the night a huge success. This was the first time the event had been held at the club and has set the standards and atmosphere for future events. In the club's 10th anniversary year, it was an evening of fun, laughter, great food and plenty of drink, where members from all sections joined together for friendship and a night of reminiscing and dancing. The silk-lined marquee withstood the battering from the elements and came out shining in what will become a must attend event in years to come. The evening began with captains, Meurig and Linda presenting all the major trophies and cups from throughout the year. The aisle to collect silverware was well worn by some more than others, in particular James Maxwell (one of Trefloyne's leading juniors), Danny Brown and Linda Kromrei. Meurig paid tribute to our first club champion, Chris Thompson, and all the juniors who this year played an integral part in club matches for Super Six and Dyfed League. Led by junior captain, James Maxwell, Ben Price, Sam Anderson and Chris Davies continued to perform when called upon and are being followed by this year's improvers Sam Fletcher and Samu Jaakola. The next year should see an even stronger junior contingent vying for honours in club events as the growing Junior Development programme and competitions, led by club professional, Chris Burton, continue to thrive. A huge round of applause and praise was given to the groundstaff of Graham, Steve and Jim for their continued efforts in lifting the playing standard of the course and presenting it in the best condition the club had ever seen all year. The meal, served by Sarah and her team, was delicious and Tom ably kept the supply of beverages flowing. Meurig and his capt/pro challenge partner, Chris, started the ball rolling on the dance floor when the disco began and fellow members soon followed. Chris and Trevor Lewis showed some of the magic they used to jive with. They were not alone, often joined by fellow groovers, Dave and Sue Crowley, Phil Jenkinson and owners Kim and Joan. The party atmosphere held long in to the night and many a sore head was about on Sunday morning. A better venue, food, music and comradeship would not be found and Trefloyne showed it had come of age. Thanks must go to Vicky Burks who gave generously of her time to organise the details of the evening. For those that missed the action, stay tuned for next year. CLUB TROPHY WINNERS 2006

CAPTAIN and PRO STEP UP A GEAR
The 'Who Dares Challenge' is proving to be a competition people want to win. When the idea was proposed by Christine Burton to captain, Meurig Evans, he was sceptical they would get any challengers. However, the lure of beating the club pro and captain is proving incentive enough and the playing list is growing. The first pair to challenge were course manager, Graham Blum and Gareth Knight. Graham, Chris's husband, found his game, after five years in the golfing wilderness, and they proved tough competitors. Meurig and Chris were still learning the other person's strengths and weaknesses. Despite turning two up, they faltered and the match was all-square at 13. Poor putting on 14 and 15 by Chris saw the challengers move to two up. A half was had at 16 and with Chris giving shots up 17, her birdie was only good enough for another half. On 18, it was Meurig's turn to miss the putts and the match was won by Graham and Gareth three up. The next match was fought out by Scott Davies and Brian Anderson. The wind may have blown hard all weekend, but the captain and pro were starting to warm to each other's game. Scott and Brian were never given a chance to stake a claim as the capt/ pro took them to the turn two up. A chip-in by Chris for birdie on 10 gave them another win. Despite a couple of late birdies by Scott, Meurig and Chris proved too strong and won five up. Following the club dinner, the captain proved late nights and lots of alcohol really make his game good. Despite arriving late for his tee-time, the pair again combined well, despite a strong pairing of Bernard Bradley and Garfield Price. Ever so graceful in allowing the captain the late start, they may have rued the decision when he went one up on the first. Giving away more shots than Chris cares to remember, the pair fought back valiantly to remain only two down at 16. That meant the match had to continue on through the tough wind conditions and play 17, where a birdie by the captain gave the half and the match finished in Chris and Meurig's favour, two up. All members are eligible to challenge the captain and pro in this event. The format is better ball stableford and all you need to do is find a partner and enter your names next to a suitable date and time on the sheet in the pro-shop. The winner of the event is the pair who beat the capt/pro by the largest margin.
WINTER LEAGUE
The winter league is now a quarter through and it is proving to be a close competition. Reverting to a much longer season this year, players require their best 12 stableford scores from 16 weeks. In Division One, James Maxwell is continuing to score well, despite the winter weather. He leads the way on 138 pts, followed by the ever-consistent Rob Evans on 135.. The summer season of lessons is proving worthy for Dave Crowley in Division Two as he heads the way on 130 pts. Dave seems to have found the consistency that has eluded him as last year's contenders, Gareth Roberts, 122, and John Hill, 120, are his nearest rivals.
UPCOMING COMPETITIONS
