Tenby Civic Society were delighted to be offered a tree to be planted in memory of Carol Rowena Williams the aunt of a near neighbour to Allens View, Joanna Suvarna.
The family group present at the planting included Carol’s sister, Christine Williams.
Once the tree was well settled into its site in the main southern glade, the family planted some primroses and forget-me-nots around it.
Joanna said she was: “hopeful the tree will settle and grow nicely in the coming months and years.”
The supply and planting of the birch by Grandiflora of St Florence was another fitting echo of the past as the new tree was planted beside the southern edge of the land the late Peter Hainsworth of Grandiflora gifted to the then Friends of Tenby (now the Civic Society).
Peter had helped then owner Jesse Allen with the landscaping and planting of the whole site of Clovers, before she and he gifted the western part along the coast path to the Friends to make the hilltop wooded viewpoint of Allens View.
Civic Society Allens View co-ordinator Harry Gardiner commented: “We will need some more planting soon as we will have to fell some trees as and when ash die-back disease dictates, so gifts of a few trees will be welcome.
“We have rowan in mind as trees of medium height, attractive visually and to wildlife.
“There will be the periodic specialist review of the site’s trees this Spring after which we will have a clearer idea of future steps and timing.”
