Pembrokeshire County Council is installing new CCTV at Tenby’s multi-storey car park to improve security at the facility.
A spokesperson for the County Council said: “This week the ground floor will be closed.
“There will be disruption for the next few weeks. We have picked this window as after summer season and before half term
“During this time there will be some disruption to parking spaces.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
One person reacting on social medai to the work, remarked: “Yes, took my 91 year old mum shopping today - no access to ground floor, only three disabled spaces and lift not working. Was this properly thought out I wonder!”
Another concurred, stating: “They might like to fix the lift at same time!”
Recently, the County Council has been asked to consider the parking bays at the multi-storey car park located on Upper Park Road, with many bemoaning for years that the spaces are simply too small for modern day vehicles.
In correspondence sent to the Local Authority, county councillor for Tenby’s North ward Cllr Michael Williams stated: “The parking bays currently in place in this car park are far too small to accommodate modern vehicles and the layout needs to be reconfigured if possible before next season.
“The size of parking bays is particularly relevant in this car park due to the constraints created by its structure.”
Issues surrounding anti-social behaviour at the site too have been ongoing in recent years, with many calling upon the police and authorties to move on groups of youths that have been gathering at the car park frequently.
Earlier this year, ahead of the summer season, the Local Authority introduced some changes to the multi-storey’s parking charges.
Among the changes was the permanent introduction of 24-hour charging on floors 1, 2 and 3.
