Representatives of the three schools in Tenby's Heywood Lane have undergone training and been looking at establishing a travel plan encompassing all the schools in a bid to cut down on congestion at the start and end of the school day. "It is hoped that the travel plan, pending guidance from the Welsh Assembly, will be utilised to bid for funding via the Safe Routes to School programme," Mr. Ian Westley, director of transportation and the environment, said in a letter to the town council. The schools - infants, junior and secondary - have highlighted the proposal of introducing a 20 mph speed limit at start and end of the school day, while another possibility could be traffic calming measures in order to engineer a permanent reduction in speed which would also deter parking and through traffic during the day. The schools are currently engaged in consultation with residents and businesses within the area and once the results are analysed, a meeting will be convened between the Tenby Schools Working Group and the town council to discuss the matter in greater detail.
