A sixty-year-old man has been sentenced to eight and a half years in jail for the rape of a woman in a Tenby alleyway during a family trip to the seaside town.
Nicholas Mitchell, of Park Avenue, West Wickham, Bromley, South London, was convicted of assault by penetration and two counts of rape following a trial.
He met his victim in a town centre pub on a Saturday night, before attacking her in a nearby alleyway off Crackwell Street, overlooking the harbour, at around 11pm.
The court heard that after sexually assaulting and raping his victim, Mitchell walked off, leaving the woman in a "distressed and dishevelled state.”
The incident was reported to the police and Mitchell was identified and arrested. He denied the allegations and the matter went to trial in November this year where he was convicted of assault by penetration and two counts of rape.
In a victim impact statement read to Swansea Crown Court, the woman described how the attack had "ruined so much" for her.
She spoke of how she had struggled to leave her house following the incident, feeling “isolated, lonely, numb and depressed”.
Judge Huw Rees said that Mitchell had "taken a fancy" to his victim before carrying out a "violent, callous assault" on what was a lone woman, before "discarding her without a thought” - describing his actions as "wicked”.
Mitchell will serve two-thirds of his eight-and-a-half-year sentence in custody before being released on licence.
The defendant will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.
The court heard Mitchell had one previous conviction for assaulting a police constable in October 2020 following a domestic incident involving his estranged wife.
