D. Fecci and Sons are now officially one of the 50 Best Fish and Chip Shops in the UK, according to Fry Magazine. It will come as little surprise to locals, but is still nice to know.
Fecci's was among 300 shops visited during the competition's debut year and the standard was set exceedingly high, but Del, Charles, family and staff needn't have worried about that as they scored an incredible 98 per cent on the mystery diner's scorecard!
Showing top marks for first impressions, telephone enquiries, food and drink, staff and payment, the scorecard includes several compliments from the mystery diner: "There was a large choice on the menu"; "the food was packaged nicely"; "the fish was excellent with perfectly cooked batter"; the chips were cooked properly and were a nice colour"; "the mushy peas were very nice with a good texture"; "there were timers on top of the fryers to ensure everything was cooked perfectly" and "the staff were very helpful."
The family business, established in 1935, uses fresh fish from Milford and Pembrokeshire potatoes. Gluten-free batter is available on request. Their high standards have earned them a string of other accolades; the most recent of these being the highest food hygiene rating, five, confirmation of which was posted on their Facebook page on Saturday.
Fecci's latest success earns them two places at the Fast Frying and Fast Food Show at Sandown Park Racecourse in October, which is also a celebration evening for the 50 Best Fish and Chip Shops. They will also benefit from some free products supplied by the various sponsors of the competition.
