Whitland all-rounder Paul Webb is known as a keen statistician as well as a top quality cricketer and with the help of his wife Janice, the Whitland scorer, he has once again compiled a list of the top 20 batsmen and bowlers who played in Division One of the Antur Insurance Services Pembrokeshire league last season.
The list is based on the total number of runs scored in the league and the total number of wickets taken.
Webb himself is second in the list of bowlers after taking 29 wickets with his off-spinners at an average of 13.44. Another spinner, Haverfordwest skipper Nick Dyer, was the leading wicket-taker with 34 wickets at an average of 9.27 and Llangwm opening bowler Darren Brick is in third place with 29 wickets at an average of 15.75.
First in the batting line-up this year is the Llangwm wicket-keeper/batsman William Beresford, who scored 478 runs at an average of 43.45.
Another left-hander, Brian Hall, of Carew, was second, 10 runs behind Beresford, with 468 runs at an average of 36, and Cresselly opener Phil Williams, another consistent run-getter throughout the season, was third with 460 runs at an average of 41.81.
It is interesting to look at all of the names listed in the top 20 batsmen and bowlers. As usual, there are some surprises, with familiar names missing and some new names coming in. Also, it is interesting to see how many batsmen and bowlers from the top three clubs get into the lists and compare that number with the number of entries from the bottom three clubs.
