An RNLI lifeguard has been hailed a hero after rescuing a five-year old boy at Tenby's Castle Beach.
The boy was playing in a bathing area on the edge of the red and yellow flags when he was suddenly caught in a rip current and was taken under by the water.
RNLI lifeguard Coral Lewis, 19, saw the little boy struggling in the water and ran to his rescue.
Even though the boy couldn't swim and was taken out of his depth, he tried not to panic and ensured that he took large breaths of air every time he came to the surface.
RNLI lifeguard supervisor, Stuart Penfold said: "Coral did a great job this afternoon and it's certain that a life has been saved today.
"It's very important that people take note of the red and yellow flags as these are the safest places to swim.
"Unfortunately, the little boy was caught out by the rip current, but we're very glad to hear that he's now alright."
RNLI lifeguards provide advice and safety cover between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm every day throughout the summer season on beaches across South and West Wales.
