Children from 1st Kilgetty Scout Group will be taking part in an attempt to smash a Guinness World Record next month. The 50 children (plus leaders and parents) will be hosting a local sleepover on the evening of Saturday, June 14, as part of a national event called The Giant Sleepover. This will be one of over 1,500 simultaneous charity sleepovers around the UK, raising money for Save the Children. All the money raised will go to Save the Children's Children's Emergency Fund (CEF).  Save the Children start responding the moment an emergency strikes, but often it has to wait to raise money with a disaster appeal or through government support. As a result, Save the Children has set-up a fund for its emergency work which enables Save the Children to start work quickly while waiting for urgently needed additional money to come in. The Giant Sleepover aims to break the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous sleepover - a record that was set by the 2006 sleepover event which had over 33,000 participants in sleepovers from Delhi in India to the Falkland Islands making it bigger than the London Marathon in the same year. The largest simultaneous sleepover world record requires participants to be asleep (or at least to have lights out for five hours or more). More than 50,000 children aged five - 16 years are expected to take part in The Giant Sleepover 2008. Locally, the children from 1st Kilgetty Scout Group have got plenty of excitement planned for the evening including fun-packed games and entertainment. Group Scout leader Daphne Gwyther said: "It's going to be a great fun event which also means that the children can raise money for Save the Children a very worthwhile cause. We are delighted to be involved." It's not too late for other groups to join in with The Giant Sleepover 2008.
