While out for an early morning stroll with her dog in Tenby last Friday morning, a local woman was surprised to hear a most unusual sound for this time of year. Mrs. P. H. Duran, of 29 Trafalgar Road, who was with her dog Delyn, heard the sound of the cuckoo singing. As she explained: "I was walking the dog on my usual route just beyond the path along the golf course, when I heard the cuckoo singing at around 7.30 am. "I thought it was most unusual to hear it this early in the year, so I stood for a good five minutes to listen to its beautiful song," she added. Continuing with the theme of unusual bird sightings, spotted at around 4 pm on Monday afternoon in Tavernspite was a parrot being chased by a magpie! "It was flying over the village and very noticeable as it's not something you expect to see loose every day," said Paul Webb, of Tavernspite Garden Centre. Described as mostly blue in colour with a red head, Paul hopes that someone who may have lost the parrot as a pet may have a better chance of finding it now, knowing there's one free in the Tavernspite area.
