Sir, At this time when there is so much depressing news around, I just wanted to congratulate and thank the Kilgetty and Begelly Craft Group which featured in last week’s Tenby Observer.

Their wonderful renovation of the Sunshine Home model (for Blind Babies and Children) on the Esplanade in Tenby is absolutely stunning, and so uplifting.

In 1978 our two-year-old blind son Richard was placed in one of only five nationwide UK Sunshine Homes suitable for blind babies until they reached seven years old. All five of the RNIB nursery schools were full-time boarding schools.

We have often gazed into the display box on the Esplanade and although it has looked sad and rather ‘tired’ in the past, it did bring back memories for us.

Now it has been totally transformed. The group have worked wonders and should be congratulated for all their hard work on restoring it.

Richard is now 46 years old and some of your readers may have seen him around Tenby. He loves living by the seaside and particularly enjoys listening to the sounds of the sea.

We often take him to the Esplanade to sit on a bench above the South Beach.

It is a fantastic effort and much appreciated. I do hope everyone who passes by the model will feel able to support their time and effort spent on the restoration.

Thank you so much for your coverage of this worthwhile project, and a very big thank you to all the volunteers.

Anne Thomas-Ferrand,

Penally
