After all the build up over the past few months, the inaugural Holiday Cottages sponsored TenFoot Swim kicks-off tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 9.30 am.
With the number of entrants restricted to 175 swimmers, the participants will enter the water on Tenby’s North Beach and head to Saundersfoot to complete the 5k challenge.
The purpose of this swim is to raise money for two charitable causes, Bloodwise and the Rory Rogers Fund. The committee is indebted to the many volunteers who have come forward to make this event happen both on and off the water. As well as a number of kayaks and boats, organisers will be assisted by the safety teams from the Saundersfoot and Tenby Sailing Club, Tenby Surf Link and Pembroke Paddlers. In order to make sure that all the entry money is donated to charity, organisers would like to thank the generosity of over 35 local businesses who have made financial contributions to pay for the running of the swim.
There is also a TenFoot Trek for all the people who don’t fancy getting wet! After the swimmers have started, they will walk the coastal path from Tenby to Saundersfoot. When all the competitors finish at Saundersfoot, they will be welcomed in by the well-known Samba Band. The first swimmer is due in at Saundersfoot beach around 11am. All swimmers, trekkers and volunteers will then be invited to a free musical extravaganza at the Regency Hall that night with doors opening at 7.30 pm where various local bands will be performing free of charge.
More support
In the last week before the first TenFoot Swim, more local businesses have been showing their support for the event.
Tenby Penguins, the dedicated Open Water Swim Team for 12-18-year-olds associated with Tenby Sailing Club are proud to support the Tenfoot Swim by providing space blankets for any swimmer that may be experiencing hypothermia after their swim.
Joining the many other local businesses who have provided financial support for the event are 1Formula Fitness and M&M Windows.
If any 12-18-year-olds would like to try or train for open water swimming with Tenby Penguins, please text the coach Sarah Hicks on 07780622784.
