Following an invite from Rev. Canon Andrew Grace and immediately following ringing St. Mary’s bells for the Nine Lessons and Carols Service, Tenby’s bellringers hot-footed it down to church to present the sponsorship monies they’d raised zipping down North Wales Velocity Wire at up to 100 mph earlier this year.
Unfortunately, cancer had visited three families in the tower and the ringers decided to reciprocate by supporting the charities that had supported them.
A cheque of £1,000 each was presented to Macmillan Cancer Support; Ovacome (Ovarian Cancer); and Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru.
Tower Captain Richard sincerely thanked all who had generously donated and sponsored the ringers in their quest to support these wonderful charities.
The bellringers of St. Mary’s Church had taken on the charity challenge at Zip World at Penrhyn Quarries - “It was a wonderful weekend of friendship, fun and some trepidation followed but all involved confirmed that they would not have missed the experience for the world,” said Ruth Webb from the group.
“It’s not often one gets to soar the heavens like a bird, zipping down 1555 metres at a minimum of 100 mph!
“The first zip was a short flight over the bluest of lakes, then a 20 minute climb in an old army truck to the summit.
“Thank God it was misty and we couldn’t see the drop!” she continued.
