Hundreds of people are expected to wrap-up warm and head to Tenby tomorrow (Saturday) night for the resort's annual Winter Carnival.

As dusk falls, the town will be turned into a winter wonderland as the Christmas celebrations get underway in earnest.

Organised once again by the Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism, last year's carnival was a superb after-dark fiesta with illuminated floats and colourful fancy dressed walkers bringing the streets alive with a party atmosphere.

Hopes are high that people have again been hard at work creating their imaginative entries and that there will be another good turnout for the event.

Spectators will find plenty of festive fun on offer as they await the carnival parade, with Rob's Roadshow live in Tudor Square at 5 pm and Santa arriving at 5.30 pm.

Then as the clock ticks around to 6 pm, the cavalcade, led by the Swansea East Carnival Display Band, will move off from the Butts Field car park.

It will travel via The Norton, White Lion Street, South Parade, Lower Frog Street and into Tudor Square where the winners in the various sections will be presented with their awards.

And this year, as well as trophies and certificates, there is over £400 worth of prize money up for grabs in both the lorry-borne and walking classes.

The winner of the best float overall will receive not only the Mayor of Tenby trophy, but also £100, while those scooping first prize in the charity/organisation, business, school/college, or private categories will pick up £50 each.

The sum of £25 each will also be won by those awarded top honours in the under eights, eight - 14 years, over 14s, best pair and best group pedestrian sections.

And for those who get inspiration today (Friday), there is still time to enter, with forms being available for both competitions at Morris Brothers in High Street. Alternatively, just turn up tomorrow night and join in the fun.

Floats are asked to meet at the Butts Field car park at 5 pm, while walking competitors are asked to assemble at the same time at St. Johns Church Hall, before joining with the main parade at the junction of White Lion Street and South Parade.

A bucket collection made during the parade will be in aid of the carnival fund.

Adding to the festivities around town will be the shop window competition and the shop staff fancy dress, for which the winners will also receive £25.

And to round off the event, the upstairs room at the Ex-Servicemen's Club in South Parade will be available from 6.30 until 8 pm for families to enjoy some post-carnival fun.

All in all, it adds up to a cracking curtain-raiser for the Yuletide season. Enjoy yourselves!
