Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the eagerly awaited Tenby to Caldey swim.
Bristol businessman, William Davies (pictured), has been organising the event and is among those to be taking part in the tough sea swimming challenge which is in honour of his mother, who is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
William has put together a team of around 25 swimmers to make the three-mile crossing.
The feat is a challenging one - a good time is anything under two hours and the tides and currents between the mainland and the island are very strong.
William said: "My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease about two-and-half-years ago. I am currently living in Newport where, alongside my sisters and brother, I help my father care for her and try to offer him the support and respite all carers need.
"As a family, we have had a place in Tenby for many, many years and have been visiting there for as long as any of us can remember.
"My mother has always loved the place, but since her illness was diagnosed we have noticed that she is particularly calm and happy there and when there she often seems a lot better than she does at other times. Perhaps it is just that we are all happy in Tenby, but it does seem to make a difference.
"I decided that I wanted to do what I could to help in the fight against Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Society does a fantastic job, but relies more and more on charity to boost the support it gets elsewhere.
"A charity swim seemed like a natural choice - we all love Tenby, I am a reasonable swimmer and Caldey Island is just there, waiting to be swum to!"
The swimmers will be leaving the Mayor's slip at 2 pm or thereabouts, one hour before high tide.
William has organised a flotilla of boats to accompany his team and he's hoping that more boat owners will come forward to help out on the day. Anyone who can assist with a boat can contact William on 07875 138 147.
Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans, will also be giving the swimmers a civic send-off.
William is expecting to raise £2,000 for the Alzheimer's Society, but he's hoping that with the amount of people now taking part, the final total will be much more.
He added: "Shops and restaurants in Tenby have also been generous in their support, so the money we raise through them will also be useful."
