Tenby will mark the passing of a former Mayor tomorrow (Thursday, April 16) as the funeral of Trevor Hallett takes place. Following the service at St. Mary's Church at 11am the funeral cortege will travel down White Lion Street onto The Parade then up Frog Street, down The Norton to The Green, then up Heywood Lane and Serpentine Road enroute to the crematorium for anyone wishing to pay their respects to Trevor - one of the seaside town’s best known characters and respected town councillors

Trevor passed away at Withybush Hospital on March 21, aged 86.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Marjorie, Trevor will be sadly missed by his daughter Abigail, sister Mo, grandchildren Emily, Sarah, George, and Joe, great-grandchildren Elaina, Noah, Theo, Olivia and Niamh and other family and friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral service takes place on Thursday, April 16, 11am at St. Mary's Church, Tenby followed by a family-only cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

There will be family flowers only with donations in memory made payable to either Parkinsons UK or Diabetes UK c/o Funeral Directors Messrs W & M J Rossiter & Sons Ltd.

Cllr Hallett was still a member of Tenby Town Council, where he served as Mayor first back in 1996, before returning to fill the role of the town's First Citizen ten years later in 2006, and again in 2011 and 2012.

In 2023, Cllr Hallett, alongside fellow Tenby Town Council stalwart, Sue Lane, became the first people to receive the ‘Freedom of the Town’ in over five decades.

First elected to the Town Council in 1987, Cllr Hallett was well-known for his environmental and ecological interests.

Born in Monkton, Pembroke, Clr. Thomas John Trevor Hallett moved at an early age to East Minerton, Devonshire Drive, where his parents ran a smallholding and agricultural contracting business and later a small touring caravan complex.

Educated in St. Florence and Coronation Schools, he worked in construction contracting for a number of years, until he and his late wife, Marjorie, opened a painting and decorating shop in Upper Frog Street, with Clr. Hallett retiring in 1994 due to ill- health.

Clr. Hallett, of 1 Cogmill Cottage, The Green, was the nephew of a much-remembered figure in local government, the late Miss Winnie Hallett.

In paying tribute, current Mayor if Tenby, Cllr Dai Morgan remarked: “Trevor will be remembered as a thoughtful and dedicated councillor, a respected colleague, and a friend to many. He gave his time generously in service to the town he loved, and his contribution to Tenby will not be forgotten.

“On behalf of Tenby Town Council, myself and members we extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Trevor’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“He will be greatly missed, and we are grateful for his many years of service to Tenby.”

Tenby Town Council office will be closed tomorrow as a mark of respect for the funeral.

A spokesperson for Tenby Town Council shared: “As a serving councillor, there will be a Mayoral civic element to the service. With this in mind, the Mayor formally invites any former Mayors and Councillors who wish to take part to join the civic procession leading into the church and around the town afterwards.”
