ANY British seaside resort these days needs to offer plenty in the way of entertainment, as it takes on competition from the Costas. Every August, Tenby puts on a Summer Spectacular down on the harbour front. It's a wow with visitors.
In a re-run of HTV's 'Fun in the Sun', last summer's extravaganza is featured in the programme on Friday, August 23, at 2.40 pm.
One of the key movers and shakers is harbourmaster Carl Evans, but the man with the biggest headaches is his brother Chris, then chairman of the Tenby Round Table. He's the man who's had to organise the band and the entertainers, the food and the Air-sea Rescue display. And the big bugbear is the weather.
After a few days of anxiety, the morning of the Spectacular dawns clear and bright. Among those enjoying themselves on the harbour front are the Taylor family from the Amman Valley. They love a good bop in the sunshine, but more than anything, they want to see their little girl moving to the music. She's still in a wheelchair, but each year she's been doing a little bit more. Their hopes are high for this afternoon.
As crooner, Adam King sings a medley of Sinatra hits and the lifeboat splashes into the water for its moment of glory, Richard and Lis of the firework display team are setting up for the big finish. And among the milling crowds, Carl and Chris are starting to look a lot more relaxed.
'Fun in the Sun' is a Green Bay production for HTV. The director is Nia Dryhurst and the producers are Phil George and John Geraint. The series was first shown earlier this year.
