As part of the ongoing fund-raising to rebuild the Tenby Scout and Guide Hall in Warren Street, a coffee evening and sing-song was held on Tuesday. The hall was packed with the current children of the Scouting and Guiding movement and they were joined by past members, many of whom are now the parents and grandparents of the children.

Old and new campfire action songs were sung with gusto and although, unfortunately, the roof was not quite raised, it definitely wobbled a bit.

Present and past, though certainly not past it, leaders organised, supported and led the proceedings. Colin Jones, chairman of the hall management committee, was MC for the evening; Gertie Dinsdale, who has been associated with the hall since it was built in 1923 and looks in much better shape, ably took charge of entry tickets and the raffle; Doreen Hammersley, who could dance any child, leader or parent off the floor, led some Welsh Folk Dancing; and the cubs entertained everyone by dancing around and over lighted candles, which stayed alight.

Then children, with parents or grandparents, joined together for more dances. Stalwart Scouter, Maureen Crockford, led a current favourite version of Singing in the Rain.

Althea Shaw and Nicole Evans, who is the County Commissioner for Pembrokeshire, manned the kitchen. Nicole bemoaned the fact that in yesteryear, county commissioners wore a cockade in their hat and did not even know the whereabouts of the kitchen, unlike today when owning a pair of rubber gloves seems to be the proviso for the position. She soon recovered when she was dispensed to wash the coffee cups.

The raffle was drawn and the prizes distributed.

Highlight of the evening was Gang Show Memories when Pauline Allen, Akela to several generations, accompanied the congregation in singing old favourites.

The children were transfixed as some older members joined with the leaders to perform, with perfect actions, 'We're riding along on the crest of a wave'.

Guides, Brownies and Cubs soon joined in and everyone sang the Scout Hymn as a finale to the evening.

The fantastic sum of £302.50 was raised to boost the fund. Thanks are extended to all who attended and to everyone who supported the event in any way.
