Sixteen-year-old Tenby student Josh Veale has interviewed one of Wales' brightest rising film actors - Luke Evans - about his new film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, in a special event hosted by film education charity FILMCLUB.
Josh, who attends Greenhill School and is a junior reporter for the charity, went to a special preview of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in London to help him prepare his questions before travelling to Caerphilly where the actor was visiting a secondary school in the area in which he grew up. The teen hosted a Q&A session with Luke and 60 pupils from Lewis school, with who also got to put their questions to the actor.
During the session, the teen quizzed Luke - who found fame in major releases such as The Three Musketeers, Fast and Furious 6 and Clash of The Titans - about his career in the film industry, what it was like filming the second in The Hobbit trilogy in New Zealand in which he plays Bard the Bowman (which is playing in cinemas across the UK now), the value of film for young people and what advice he has for young people in Wales interested in developing a career in film.
The event was organised by FILMCLUB (http://www.filmclub.org">www.filmclub.org) in collaboration with Warner Bros UK. It is part of the charity's industry interaction programme 'Behind-The-Scenes', which enables young people from all backgrounds to have access to a creative professional whilst still at school - something which education experts regard as hugely valuable for raising aspirations and providing information about potential career opportunities.
Commenting after the event, Josh said: "Today has been amazing. It was really nice to interview Luke Evans - and is so inspiring to hear from someone who has an inspiring message to give to people about film, it makes the film industry seem so much more accessible."
Luke, who grew up in Aberbargoed, said about the visit: "It was really nice. I wasn't expecting such a warm reception, I thought that there would be 10 or 12 kids and there was a huge crowd in the hall. And they were all asking incredibly interesting and informed questions, I was very impressed. It was fantastic!"
Speaking about Josh interviewing him, the actor said: "He did better than most interviewers I've been dealing with in the last two weeks around the world! He did a great job - he's gonna go far!"
