The bright sunshine and light breeze on Sunday brought a fleet of nine boats to the start line for the second race in the summer season. The five Ospreys of Mike Stace and Deanna Morton, Rolly Squibbs and Marc Shepherd, Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson, Alistair Knibb and Alastair Mackay and Luke Smith and Matt were joined at the start by the RS600 of Dan Jackson, the Phantoms of Nick Berridge and Paul Redford and the 29er of Tommy D'Ortez and Connor Keohane.

The wind was very light from the south initially, so race officers Ted Lewis and Matt Goldwait set a small triangular course with an upwind start. All boats made the starting area in sufficient time and at a congested start line it was Mike Stace in his Osprey and Dan Jackson in the RS600 making the early pace.

As the race progressed, the wind swung more to the west and rose and the course was enlarged to accommodate the new conditions. The spinnaker boats enjoyed a close reach, followed by a broad reach, but the dominant feature throughout the race was the tide rushing from Monkstone Point to Caldey and making the upwind leg much too easy for the race officers' enjoyment.

The very gentle conditions did not suit the single-handed boats and, after five competitive laps, the race was taken on corrected time by Mike and Deanna, followed by Rolly and Marc and Paul and Anthea..

Darts

Well, well! We lost big time to a very efficient darting outfit. No excuses, we were not good enough, but we did win the 1001 - despite being behind by a substantial amount at one time. Colin Parmenter also shone to win the masters match.Despite another drubbing, we thoroughly enjoyed our hosts' hospitality. This evening we are away to Tenby Bowling Club. Participating members please note.

Jam Evening

The next session will take place next Monday, April 20. During the sailing season, Wednesday evenings will be taken up by the popular junior sail training. Hence the reason for the switch to Mondays until October where it will revert to Wednesdays.

Junior Training

The first training session will take place next Wednesday, April 22, commencing at 5.30 pm. This will be followed by the first BBQ of the season put on by the legendary Terry Evans.
