Sunday sailing

A light and erratic north-westerly greeted the five boats that came to the start line for the club race on Sunday.

Race officer Angelo Fecci set a starboard course with a broad reaching start.

At the start, it was the Osprey of Ted Lewis and Matt Goldwait which got away first on the spinnaker leg. Dan Jackson and Chris Mackay in an RS800, one of the fastest dinghies available, made it to the front of the fleet by the end of that leg, followed by Ted and Matt, Mike Stace and Tommy D'Ortez in another Osprey, Nick Berridge in his Phantom and Emily Dashfield and Edward Kirby in the club RSVision.

The racing between the Ospreys was nip and tuck, but the other boats separated on the race course according to their various speeds. Eventually, after an error by Ted and Matt on the beat, Mike and Tommy overtook. The result on corrected time was first Nick in his Phantom, second Edward and Emily in the RS Vision, third Mike and Tommy, fourth Ted and Matt and, although crossing the line comfortably ahead on the water, Dan and Chris.
