Many thanks to Daniel Jackson (RS600) for standing in for the absent GP14 (wallowing in the sun on Lake Garda). His contributions to the weekly articles are very much appreciated. Last Wednesday saw the usual plethora of juniors turning for sail training. Our juniors are progressing well, with several vying for places in the main fleet. Mark Dashfield, racing trainer, is impressed by the progress of the more experienced sailors. As well as junior sailing, a points race took place with the following results. 1. Daniel Jackson in a RS600; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Alistair Mackay in an Osprey; 3. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in an Osprey. All were treated to the usual universally acclaimed BBQ prepared by Karin Morris in the absence of Terry Evans.
Junior Sailing
As mentioned last week, it was Tenby's turn to host the CYRC (Club Youth Racing Circuit). A large turnout appreciated the ideal sailing conditions. Three races took place in succession before returning to shore to enjoy the legendary Terry Evans BBQ. All races were closely contested with the overall results as follows. Optimist/Tera fleet: 1. Harry Upton in an Optimist (Teifi Boating Club); 2. William Thomas in an Optimist (Teifi Boating Club); 3. Matthew May in a Tera (Tenby Sailing Club); equal 4. Rosie Brace in a Tera (Tenby Sailing Club) and Georgia Williams in a Tera (Tenby Sailing Club). Topper fleet: 1. Michael Beckett (Solva Sailing Club); 2. Hanna Campbell (Teifi Boating Club); 3. Conor Keohane (Tenby Sailing Club); 4. Ellie Meopham (Solva Sailing Club). Handicap fleet: 1. Tommy D'Ortez in a Laser (Tenby Sailing Club); 2. Alex and Joel Kirk in a RSFeva (Neyland Yacht Club); 3. Quinn McGrath in a Laser 4.7 (Neyland Yacht Club). Prizes were presented by commodore, Daniel Jackson. All agreed the event was well organised, both on and off the water. Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of the day.
