Last weekend saw Tenby town centre being brought to life with all things Roald Dahl.
To mark the centenary of the author’s birth The Eastend Flyover Company, an amateur dramatics group based in Pembroke, put on an original piece of theatre to celebrate Dahl’s life...and what a spectacle it was!
The show ran from Friday through to Sunday beginning at The De Valence Pavilion before moving out on to the streets.
The Friday show however took place indoors due to the inclement weather.
The De Valence was converted in to a Dahl wonderland, with flying cranes, giant clouds, a reading corner, a George’s Marvellous Medicine inspired area and at the centre piece a skyline of Tenby made by Eran of Metalwood Crafting who also crafted a wishing tree to hang your wishes on!
There was even the ability to make your very own dream bottle.
All of this was accompanied by Jess Ward, our very own Mrs. Grey, on her harp.
The travelling section of the show was accompanied by a raucous Samba Doc disguised as the Roly-Poly Bird band, and live music accompanied the entire show by the Flyover house band lovingly called The Foxes, and the finale was accompanied by The West Wales Show Choir.
Beefy, the group’s very own BFG was made and operated by the talented Di Ford of Di Ford Designs, who headed up the procession and was a focual point of wonderment.
The procession stopped for performances at Brychan Yard, St Mary’s Church, Tudor Merchants House, Castle Square, and culminated in a spectacular scene down the harbour.
The performance followed Beefy and the narrator on their evening work as Harbour Dreams Inc whilst they spread their dreams to local Tenby characters both fictional and real.
The Tenby characters had a Dahl-esque hue to them, with the final scene culminating in all of these characters being gifted to a sleeping boy Dahl down on the harbour.
The show was coupled with a promotional Golden Ticket Hunt, which was very kindly run by Sue from Lollies traditional sweet shop, and five lucky children have won a family ticket to Oakwood. They will receive details shortly.
The Flyover would like to especially thank the Mayor of Tenby, the Town Council and the De Valence Trust as the show would not have happened without their support and assistance.
“The show was on epic proportions and of the like the town has never seen before,” said Angharad Scourfield of The Eastend Flyover Company.
“The Flyover would like to thank all those involved and very much hope that this is just the start of more theatre in the town, after all we are the dreamers of our dreams,” she added.
