Nick Bourne, AM for Mid and West Wales and Welsh Conservative leader in the National Assembly for Wales, has said that the Health Minister is effectively looking at whether Tenby should get a replacement hospital or a clinic.
The comments came during questions to the Health Minister in the National Assembly.
Speaking in the chamber, Nick Bourne said: "I understand that you have asked for financial assessments to be of both 'with beds' and 'without beds' options for the future of Tenby hospital. That is in effect, an assessment on whether to have a hospital or a clinic.
It should be realised that Tenby, with an ageing population, must have these beds and that 10 less beds in Tenby will effectively mean 10 less beds in Withybush Hospital, as patients who would otherwise have been in Tenby have to go there."
Nick Bourne also paid tribute to Mrs. Pat Wright, chairman of Tenby Hospital League of Friends.
"Tribute must be paid to the selfless hard work of Pat Wright, whose sole goal and motivation in her campaign has been to safeguard this hospital for the benefit of the people of Tenby."
