Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Paul Rapi has joined the ranks of the town’s First Citizens to be immortalised on canvas thanks to the talents of Ysgol Greenhill School’s head of art, Gareth Jones.

Following several sittings earlier this year, Clr. Rapi was delighted when the head and shoulders study was officially unveiled in the Mayor’s Parlour by Mr. Jones on Tuesday night.

“Í am always looking for opportunities to utilise my artistic experience in all forms of drawing and painting,” explained Mr. Jones.

“However, since returning to Pembrokeshire to live and work, I have tended to focus on landscapes that capture the natural beauty of the county.

“Portraiture has always been a particular passion of mine, so when Clr. Rapi - who was still teaching at the school at the time - announced that he had become Mayor-elect, I saw an unique opportunity to produce a piece of historic artwork and volunteered my services,” he added.

Clr. Rapi admitted that, even though he and Mr. Jones had been friends for many years and knew he was a talented artist, he was overcome by the finished result.

“Ít is absolutely stunning,’ he said.

“Ít captures me perfectly and I am honoured to accept it for display in the Parlour.”
