The Mayor of Tenby, recently took on the Cardiff Half Marathon in support of Tenby Sea Cadets, helping to raise a magnificent amount in the process!

Over £1,000 has been raised with the kind offer of fund-matching from the team at Tenby and District Lions to benefit this important local organisation, which provides opportunities and skills for young people in our community.

This month, the Mayor, Cllr Dai Morgan said that he had the absolute honour of presenting Tenby Sea Cadets - one of his chosen charities of the year - with a cheque for £550.

“As Vice Chair of the Unit Management Team, the cadets challenged me to take on the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for the unit. But there was a twist — they wanted me to run it in Sea Cadets uniform!” he said.

“The original suggestion was diving gear, but thankfully we all agreed that might have been a bit much for 13.1 miles!

“The support I received was incredible. Friends, family, and the local community all chipped in with donations and words of encouragement, which kept me going throughout training and on race day.

“I can’t thank you all enough for your generosity.

“A special mention and huge thanks to the Tenby Lions, who very kindly promised to match my fundraising total if I reached my £500 target. Because of their amazing support — and the generosity of everyone who donated — we were able to hand over an incredible £1,050 to the unit.”

To mark the occasion, Tenby’s Mayor also presented the unit with his Cardiff Half Marathon medal, framed as a small token of appreciation for everyone’s involvement.

“The run might have been my challenge, but the achievement truly belongs to the whole team — every cadet, supporter, and donor who made it possible,” he added.
