Tenby United Youth lost a hard fought match on Saturday at Crymych, but the final score of 30 points to 7 was not a true reflection of the game.
Tenby, playing into a strong wind, were doing well to hold the score at two penalties when, just before half time, Crymych scored a breakaway try.
Tenby were straight back at them and were a metre from the Crymych line when the whistle went for half time.
After an encouraging talk from coach Lyn and the prospect of the wind at their backs, it appeared that the hard work was over, and Tenby looked to be in a strong position.
Nick Rowe started the score with a charge down he collected and crashed over. Aled Griffiths kicked the conversion. It was at this time that things started to go wrong. The Crymych tackling was outstanding and they were very quickly up on our line disrupting any attacking chances.
Bad tackling and some wrong decisions at critical times allowed them to run in a further three easy tries completely against the run of play.
The pack played well with Alex Jenkins again gaining a lot of line-out ball. Sam Smith had some powerful runs, as did John Sheasby and Geoff Martin.
The welcome return of Jason Keights, alongside Mathew Davies must make one of the strongest running, hardest hitting pair of centres in the county.
The young side will learn a lot from this defeat. They know, and the Tenby supporters know they could have won it.
Training will continue at The Clicketts on Wednesday's at 7 pm. Transport can be arranged, just let Geoff know.
If you are 16 or have your 16th birthday coming up, come and join the squad on a Wednesday. If you have had a lay-off or if you have not played before – you will be very welcome.
