Friday, December 2, saw Sochin Karate Club's first ever in-house competition.

Catering solely for their junior students, the day was a great success and gave the children valuable experience for when they enter more high profile competitions in the future.

Competition allows students to test their skills and knowledge against their fellow competitors and also to strive towards perfecting their technique.

The club will be holding similar competitions twice a year from now on, with the June event incorporating other, more advanced categories, and also adults.

All entrants received a participatory medal, ensuring that nobody left empty-handed and the successfully placed competitors were:

Individual Kata: 1. Stefan Williams; 2. Robbie Ashton; 3. Kiara Connor.

Ippon Kumite (five-eight years): 1. Stefan Williams; 2. Robbie Ashton; 3. Jake Henson.

Ippon Kumite (nine years-plus): 1. Kiara Connor; 2. Finlay Elliott; 3. James Gardner.

Also, the overall best performance award, The Park Leisure Shield of Excellence, went to Stefan Williams for outstanding performances in both Kata and Kumite.

The club accepts children from five years upwards and also adults. Beginner and advanced students welcome.
