On Sunday, the Strathmore Hotel sponsored U13s travelled to Bynea. A beautiful morning for rugby, the game started after a minute's silence for the mother of one of the Bynea players, who had sadly passed away.
From the off, both sides kept the ball tight, with Bynea probably just shading the game on possession.
This stalemate lasted approximately 15 minutes, until eventually scrum-half Kieran scored his first try.
This had a huge significance on the game. Tenby suddenly woke up and for the next 20 minutes played some awesome rugby.
Tenby's second try came when, after four attacking phases, second row Ryan picked up from the back of a ruck, pinned back his ears and ran in from the 10-metre line. Rob converted this.
Fellow lock Aled notched up the next try with a signature bull-like run.
Other tries were scored by Kieran, Bronzac, Aaron (2) and Jordan (2).
The important thing, however, was not who scored the tries, but the manner in which they were scored. The boys defended as if their lives depended on it, constantly putting pressure on Bynea when in possession.
In attack, the work rate was formidable. Tenby looked to keep the ball alive at every opportunity, with both pace and power. A huge plus for the coaches was the way the players defended their line right up to the final whistle. This was no mean achievement against a good Llanelli team on their own turf!
Tenby fielded: Tom, Luke, Jimmy, Ryan, Aled, Aaron, Bronzac, Oli, Marcus, Peter, Kieran, Rob, Jerome, Elliott, OTB, Josh, Nathen, Jordan, Rafe, Jonathon.
Thanks again to Rob for photos, the usual posse of travelling supporters, and Bynea for being great hosts.
TENBY U11s 11 tries PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 5
Fantastic rugby conditions awaited the Under 11s boys for this quarter-final clash, and clash it turned out to be, with huge tackles from both teams.
It was end-to-end rugby all the way, with Tenby managing to get the upper hand by getting the ball wide and utilising the pace of their backs, coupled with great defensive work by all players.
Well done to all the team. Try scorers were man-of-the-match Harry (5), Tom (2), Adam (3), Edward (1).
They are now are looking forward to entertaining Haverfordwest at Heywood Lane, Tenby, in the semi-final on Friday, March 27, 6.30 pm kick-off.
Training 6 until 7 pm on Thursday nights at The Clicketts training ground, Tenby - all welcome.
Tenby U10s 5 Bynea 2
Tenby Under 9s, 10s and 13s teams travelled to Bynea Llanelli, together on Sunday, all in high spirits and eager for the games.
When the Under 10s match began, Bynea had the first kick-off, straight into the arms of Jack Tucker, which set the scene for the rest of the match.
Tenby played hard, giving 100 per cent and enjoying every moment, thriving on the teamwork and really coming into their own.
The first try came from Ryan Conbeer, which was set-up from Jac Waters side-stepping his way through the opposition; the second from Jack Tucker with the help of Tom Murphy off-loading it to him from a superb run.
After refreshments and a team talk at half-time, they came out tackling hard, not giving Bynea a chance. Jack Tucker had the next two tries from some excellent counter-rucking from Jack Broadhurst which turned over possession, enabling Tucker to crash over the line.
The fifth try came from Tom Murphy, with an excellent run, fighting his way through the Bynea players (see picture).
Tenby Under 10s have developed into a strong side, working on strengths and weaknesses, blending new and old players, with Jamie Rossiter enjoying being captain and forging the experience of Ben, Alex, Milo and Jorden which proves stronger and stronger each game, with the ever-eager George, Tao, Elliot, Miles, Lewis doing a great job and obviously loving every minute of the game. Missing was Tom Rossiter who was injured during the week.
Team: Jamie Rossiter (captain), Tao Davies, Lewis Gilpin, Jack Broadhurst, Jac Waters, Jack Tucker, Ben Plain, Ryan Conbeer, Alex Thomas, George Amos, Tom Murphy, Jordon Walley, Elliot Moorhouse, Miles Davies, Milo Stone.
Thanks to Mark Heywood, all the parents who supported, Silcox Coaches, Chris Williams, Rob Hicks, Andrew Hill and Lee Parsons. A great day out - where to next?
Footnote: A special well done to Tao, who gave 100 per cent during the previous week's game, but whose name was omitted due to a typing error.
