Tenby Under 11s travelled across the border to Laugharne for only their second game of the season. Despite the atrocious weather conditions, 16 players made the trip, which was a testament to the dedication of the players. Tenby came out looking fresh and hungry and, receiving the kick-off, immediately attacked the Laugharne 22. After sustained pressure by the forwards, quick-thinking scrum-half, Jo D., made a darting run down the blind-side to score Tenby's first try. From the restart, Tenby again attacked, this time through some excellent long passing by the backs setting one another into space. With Laugharne unable to get out of their own 22, it was only a matter of time until Tenby got a second try and this came courtesy of another sniping run by Jo D. Laugharne, who looked a well-organised side, came back hard. But Tenby looked well-versed in all departments of the game - tackling and concentration, weaknesses in the past, being particularly strong areas. All the forwards worked solidly together as a unit - clearing out, presentation of the ball and support of the ball carriers was excellent. James dominated the lineout and the scrum looked very comfortable, with Tenby winning a number of put-ins against the head. Dylan and Matthew pressurised Laugharne in the loose and stole a lot of ball in the maul. Cameron and Rob both made good yardage with determined powerful drives down the centre of the pitch. The backs also looked well-drilled. They kept their structure excellently, leaving no gaps for Laugharne to run through. They tackled well and got their passes in that little bit earlier to put one another into space. Elliot, Charlie and Jake were sound in defence down the middle and out wide, while quick hands by Jo D. set Jo F. and David Dunfee on their characteristic slicing runs. The game saw a number of new players entering the fray - competing bravely and showing promising new skills. With all this new competition, some of last season's regulars will have to continue to train and play well to keep their places. Well done to all the team. This was one of the best all-round team efforts the squad has delivered. The ball was made available due to hard forward play, which ensured good second phase ball for the skilled backs to exploit the full width of the pitch. Let's see a repeat performance next match with another clean slate.
