Tenby United U16s, sponsored by N. D. Toy and Partners, entertained their counterparts from Ystalyfera last Sunday, and with blue skies, it was a perfect day for running rugby.

Ystalyfera kicked off and the Tenby forwards immediately took the initiative, providing a platform for their expansive game.

Tenby opened the scoring in the fifth minute, with prop Marvin Thomas breaking through the visitors' defence for scrum-half Rhys Thomas to score beneath the posts.

The next try followed shortly after when centre Ben Field-Thomas pierced the defence to score, both tries being converted to put Tenby 14-0 up.

The visitors had their best period midway through the first half, but the home defence was watertight. Again incessant Tenby pressure paid off, with flanker Nick Drewett powering over to bring the half to a close at 21-0.

Tenby forwards were immense, while Mike Coburn in defence and attack was outstanding.

Tenby kicked off the second period, with Nick Drewett gaining possession and outstripping the defence to score an excellent solo try and his second of the morning.

Winger Johnsie Lewis was next on the scoresheet, when a through ball saw him race to win the touchdown.

Tenby were now playing copybook rugby, and special mention must be made of Ben Field-Thomas, who showed his class all morning, and scored an excellent try.

Daniel Colley at fullback also had an outstanding game, cutting the Ystalyfera defence to ribbons every time he had the ball, and scored two excellent tries, including the last of the morning.

In all, Tenby scored eight tries, six of which were converted.

This was excellent all round performance by the Seasiders, with all the backs relishing the opportunity to run with the ball. Well done boys.

Coach's man-of-the-match was Daniel Colley.

Training is 4.15 pm Friday at the Clicketts. Next match for the U16s is away to Newcastle Emlyn on January 4.

The coaches, Ben, John and Chris, would like to say thank you to the parents and supporters, and wish all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
