After a week of heavy rain, it was a pleasant surprise to meet at the Clicketts ground amid sunshine and when Crymych arrived with a full squad of players everything was set for an enjoyable morning's rugby.

We were not to be disappointed. The game kicked off at a fast pass with good handling skills being seen from both sides. Tenby made some penetrating runs in the oppositions half, spearheaded by Harry, with Ashley, Philip and Ieuan providing good support.

However, the play switched to Tenby's half and a quick ball from a maul meant that Crymych were first to score with a try in the corner.

Tenby continued their attack with runs from Loui and Rob supported on the wing by Luke, and it wasn't long before Curtis opened up the opposition with a long run through their centres to score a well deserved try in the corner.

Crymych made full use of their largest forward and despite being weighed down with Tenby players hanging on his shoulders, he broke from a maul to score their second try to make the half-time score 10-5.

Mike Evans must have had some sharp words with the boys at the interval, for it was a transformed team that took up the challenge. Alex made some exceptional tackles, halting the opposition in their tracks, while the forwards started to win more ball from the mauls, thanks to the efforts of Cai, Leo, Carwyn, Sam and not forgetting the elusive Ryan.

Harry made a fine run, outpacing the defence to score a solo try on the left wing to level the scores.

But Crymych responded again from a rolling maul to pull ahead once more.

Tenby continued to hold their own against the opposition forwards and Harry then came to the rescue again with another fine individual run to provide the home side with its third and equalising try.

However, this was to be the home side's last score and an unchallenged run by a visitors' forwards through the middle of the defence meant that they again went into the lead.

As the game was drawing to a close, a last minute try from a scrum on Tenby's five-yard line finalised the score at 25 to 15 in favour of the visitors.

Team: Ashley Andrews, Ross Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Cai Evans, Robert Farlie, Loui Fecci, Alex Heesom, Philip Horsley, Curtis Hurlow, Luke James, Carwyn Lawrence, Rhys Lewis, Leo Morland, Ryan O'Neill, Harry Owen (capt.), Sam Turton, Ieuan Williams.

PEMBROKE RFC U11s 7

TENBY RFC U11s 35

With a 16-man squad, it took some inventive position shuffling by the coaches to allow all in the black and red jersey a run-out. Captaincy went to the boilerhouse boss Daniel Gosnold. He immediately took control of the situation and led the whole squad into a well-groomed victory.

His forward companions, Lewis Davies, Andrew Cooke and Jonathan Miller, were all fired up and produced some brilliantly co-ordinated play. This provided the best possible platform for Ianto Griffiths to master his skills at scrum-half.

This he did with authority with excellent service to his outside-half and also with individual runs. One such run opened the scoring with a classic scrum-half try.

This score was just the beginning of a great game of rugby to watch from both parent and coach's points of view.

The team bonded as a forward unit and pleasingly as a running back five and allowed the ball to do all the work, which eventually resulted in further tries from outside-half Tom Baker and again young Ianto.

Credit to the hearts of the home side. This team of both men and ladies found great spirit to give the Tenby defence constant headaches. It provided all in the visiting jerseys with the odd bruise or two and no one more so than Lewis Hodgson who yet again put his fullback jersey on the line to halt several would-be scores.

After the break, a major reshuffle occurred in the Tenby squad to allow the remaining six players a 20-minute canter. Once on the field, the first-half script was followed exactly. Nino Rogers took the proud jersey of second row and proved his worth.

Colleague Alex Thomas also showed the large crowd he is a tower of strength with a massively determined run to the line which he managed to cross even with four or five Pembroke hitch-hikers hanging off his back.

However, it was not all Tenby on the scoreboard. A brilliant passing session by the home side released their number 15 to score the best try of the day.

This inspired young Sam Fletcher who, from the tap restart, decided it was his turn to gain the hard yards with a powerful charge straight down the middle which sucked in half of the Pembroke unit, but pleasingly the ball was kept alive, allowing the back line to instigate another attack led by Lloyd Thomas. He, as per usual, showed his individual flare, but mainly kept the game plan and passed along the line to Michael Robins and Joseph Richards, who both caused havoc with the home defence.

Final say of the day went to new scrum-half Ross Gray whose speed from a standing start is one Jeremy Clarkson could measure on Top Gear. If you blinked you would have missed him. He ran from his own 22 to score in 1.25 seconds. All tries were converted by Ianto, Tom, Lloyd and Michael.

TENBY SWIFTS U12s 39 pts. CRYMYCH U12s 7

After a lay off of almost a month due to cancellations, Tenby Swifts Under 12s entertained a lively Crymych outfit at the Clicketts on Remembrance Sunday. The game started with an immediate wake-up call for the Swifts when Crymych sliced through the defence in the first minute for a converted try under the posts.

These Swifts are not used to being behind and quickly blew away the cobwebs to put on yet another superb performance.

Both pack and backs were outstanding, with forwards Declan Sharma, Daniel McDermott, Yannic Parker and Joseff Morris playing their best games for the club. Danny, Declan and Joseff were rewarded with tries (two in Joseff's case), while Yannic came close on a number of occasions, only to be held up on the line.

Robert Jones, Sam Ferguson and Gareth Lawrence played a strong game in the front row and Olly Goldwait was a mobile second row. At the back of this mobile pack we had creative number eight Patrick Roberts who makes the yards and also distributes well.

Callum Baxter and Sean Davies are learning and what better place to learn than in the middle of this developing eight.

Snapping at the heels of the pack was James Canton, who provided an excellent service to the abrasive Jamie Williams.

In the centre, Kiefer Thomson (normally a scrum-half) was excellent and relished the more open spaces to carve holes in the defence and to feed his wings with well timed passes.

Winger James Criddle was away early in the game for what might have been the equaliser following the shock start, but unfortunately strayed over the dead-ball line in an effort to touch-down behind the posts.

On the other wing, Rhys Winter and Tom Griffin showed that they can develop into elusive runners and those gifted players, Toby Smith and Chris Heesom, showed their undoubted skill and speed when they made their restricted appearances.

Matthew Davies was once again outstanding at fullback and showed both his attacking and defensive powers to the full.

Of the backs, it was Kiefer, Chris and Mathew who got on the score sheet to complete the try tally of seven, with Patrick and Kiefer converting one apiece.

This was an immensely satisfying performance in which the boys displayed a maturity beyond their years in most aspects of play.

Tenby fielded: Mathew Davies, James Criddle, Kiefer Thomson, Rhys Winter, Thomas Griffin, Toby Smith, Chris Heesom, Jamie Williams, James Canton, Sam Ferguson, Gareth Lawrence, Declan Sharma, Robert Jones, Daniel McDermott, Oliver Goldwait, Sean Davies, Callum Baxter, Yannic Parker, Joseff Morris and Patrick Roberts (capt).
