TENBY U13s 24 pts
FELINFOEL U13s 5
Last Sunday Tenby U13s travelled to Felinfoel, where they were determined to maintain their unbeaten record. A squad of 17 made the journey, this included three players from the U12 team.
From the outset the forwards took control of the game, the front row of James Dick, Rob Colley and Robert Clarke were a powerful unit, immediately making inroads in the Felinfoel defence.
The home side managed to hold strong for the first 10 minutes, when a Tenby scrum on the half way line saw scrum half, Sam Foster feed the ball out the wing Mathew Fleming who, running from the half way line, scored a brilliant solo try. The try went unconverted.
Tenby were now starting to take control. Luke Deadman and Paul Brookes both playing their first game for the U13s made valuable contributions.
The back row of James Davies, Robbie Tuttle and Daniel Colley were immense. Daniel Colley picked up the second try of the morning, bursting through the Felinfoel defence and scoring between the sticks for Oliver Morgan to convert.
Tenby's third try was a cracker, with the ball being fed from a maul on the half way line by James Davies to full back David Sanders, who took the ball on the burst racing 50 yards and was unlucky to be held up just short of the line.
However, centre Jack Bevan was on hand to complete the move, scoring and excellent try which was converted by outside half Oliver Morgan, making the score 19-0 at half time.
Felinfoel kicked off for the second half, and to their credit the defence held strong against storming runs by Bobby Briers, Oliver Morgan, Robbie Whitfield and David Jones.
Tenby's last try came from Daniel Colley picking up a loose ball and running for 30 yards, before being held up short of the line.
He passed to Jack Bevan, who having a excellent game at centre scored his second try of the morning. The try went unconverted.
Felinfoel then scored an unconverted try minutes before the end of the match making the final score 24-5.
Squad: James Dick, Robert Colley, Robert Clarke, Henry Boot, Luke Deadman, James Davies, Daniel Colley (Capt). Robbie Tuttle, Sam Foster, Oliver Morgan, Robert Whitfield, Bobby Briers, Jack Bevan, Matthew Flemming, David Saunders, Paul Brooks, David Jones.
Chris and John would like to congratulate the boys on their excellent performance, and also a special thank you to the parents, for their support and help with the transport.
Mentioned should also be made of the three boys, namely Robert Colley, Henry Boot and Luke Deadman from the U12s who stepped up due to injuries, held their own, and were in no way intimidated playing up a year.
TENBY U11s 80 pts
MILFORD MARINERS U11 nil
After a week of torrential rain and playable section of the Clicketts was marked out allowing the match to go ahead and to see Tenby annihilate their Milford visitors in fine style.
With the bare minimum of 10 players Tenby, led by Oliver Goldwait ran up 80 points without reply with every member of the team scoring at least one try. There was more to the result than the big score, this was a happy team with the boys playing for each other and individual players who had already scored ensuring that their colleagues did not miss out on the spoils.
James Canton, playing his first full time game at scrum half was a revelation. He grasped his opportunity with relish putting on a superb show and scoring two tries through quick thinking, decision making and a high degree of skill.
He provided a cool service to out half Jamie Williams who groomed his backline with perfection and scored two tries by slicing through the Milford defence at will. Similarly, Toby Smith seemed unstoppable with his elegant running in the centre and carved out openings for his three tries. Captain, Oliver Goldwait again showed his versatility by playing out of position on the wing and was delighted with his first try of the season after some direct running.
Matthew Davies wasn't called upon to make any of his usual bone-shattering tackles and was, therefore, able to channel his efforts in attack with some deceptive running to gain a pair for himself.
The forwards were once again a controlling force and Milford found it impossible to contain their diving surges. Jack Baker was prominent as usual and on this occasion was rewarded with two long overdue tries.
Robert Jones, his fellow prop, played his best game for the club in determined fashion and was another to notch up his first try. Yannic Parker who has developed into an abrasive, competitive forward was excellent winning plenty of opposition ball against the head in the scrum and also displayed his scoring abilities with a try.
In the second row Joseff Morris and Patrick Roberts were power houses making opposition-scattering runs and winning plenty of ball. Both scored, Joseff showing initiative in taking a tapped penalty to burst over and Patrick, with the seconds ticking away storming over for the final touch down when it looked as though he might miss out on the try-feast. The team spirit was in evidence but no more than by Jamie and Toby who gave unselfish passes to allow team mates to score where they could have added to their personal tallies. Well done, what a refreshing attitude.
Poor old Milford could not reply to the onslaught from this on-song Tenby team, but nevertheless they battled to the bitter end. They seemed in good spirits, however, when both teams partook in diving and sliding into the mud bath in one of the wetter corners. They tell me its good for the skin!
Tenby fielded: Matthew Davies, Oliver Goldwait (capt), Toby Smith, Jamie Williams, James Canton, Robert Jones, Yannic Parker, Jack Baker, Joseff Morris and Patrick Roberts.
